Cruise Bruise Ten Year Celebration

Cruise Bruise Ten Year Anniversary

Ten years ago today, Cruise Bruise was launched with less than two dozen cases. At the time, I thought it was a lot. Then, the investigations began and cases started piling up on my desk. People began bringing my attention to other cases, current and past. Over the years, there was a never ending stream of people who called themselves "cruise victims". I admit, with my own history of being a victim, it was easy to almost always take their story at face value. Then, do a basic investigation in order to substantiate their claim. Really deep investigations into cases didn't come until years later and were certainly an eye-opener.

Associations were created with nothing more than trust. Over the years, that trust was betrayed, time and time again, with the truth about people, their motives and secret agendas rising to the surface. The truth is this. The media and online publications such as mine, are targets for greedy people who seek to use a story for financial gain. These people, who go to any length to get media attention, we call media whores. They sell their souls for a few moments, few days or few months of fame, mostly seeking their fortune at other's expense. So, I began walking away from previous bonds, becoming reliant on my own ability to research facts, before deciding if a case would be featured on Cruise Bruise.

From that point forward, I would dig through court cases, reading every document within the case, as I worked through the evidence to decide, who was cruise bruised. More often than not I found the answer was the cruise line. Of course, it was not always the case. There were ships sinking or catching fire, collisions with docks and other vessels, sometime due to weather, other times due to mechanical failure, and still other times due to negligence of cruise ship officers.

The most common reason for passenger and crew member involved incidents at sea was poor judgment without a thought for personal risk. In other words, the end result was a thinning of the herd, after people did stupid things, often accompanied by other stupid people and it ended badly. Being stupid is not a crime, but when the actions of stupid people inflict financial loss on others, that my friends should be a crime. Those are the cases I give the highest priority for research.

The financial losses associated with stupidity, when it comes to incidents at sea, is felt far and wide by others. It's immediately felt by friends, family members, survivors at home along with others sailing aboard the cruise ship. It reaches beyond the current cruise affecting people who make their earnings in the port missed by a change in itinerary. The cruise line and governments who pick up the tab for assistance also bear the financial burden of picking up after stupid people. The effect doesn't end there, it continues to affect those who cruise, those who work on cruise ships through changes in policy or legislation, which can affect people for years to come, if not forever.

Sadly, there are other cases where prudent people used good reasoning and it ended badly for them, in spite of their best efforts. Mostly, we don't hear about those cases, I would love to feature them with a growing database of cruise mistakes, owned by those who take full personal responsibility. These type of dream articles would make a great addition as cruise awareness, “if you do this”, what happened to me can could happen to you.

Now Cruise Bruise is back with an attitude that shows more of our original colors and with a new design in celebration of our ten year anniversary. We are again hard hitting and somewhat opinionated. Now up front for everyone to see, we celebrate our past 10 years by adopting a new no-nonsense logo. Our new Cruise Bruise Investigates (CBI) logo is a promise to our fans and cruise critics that we will continue to pursue the truth, ferret out lies and hypocrisy which point to real motives and hidden agendas in each case we display. Further, we are bringing back many old cases which were removed from Cruise Bruise and are making them part of the database again.

There is always more to each story then we can made public in our online format. Often, we hold back information that is not safe for Internet public consumption. Sometimes we have very rare, “behind the scenes interactions” with our sources and subjects that goes badly. Getting in our, “Inbox” and direct attacks usually does nothing to loosen our, “ruthlessness” during our investigations. So, we intentionally withheld information for a bigger plan, a story or a book, “someday”. Someday has arrived. A collection of stories, events and the history of the editor at Cruise Bruise is being collected.

We will update you here as soon as we have more information.

Thank you very much for visting Cruise Bruise and we look forward to another ten years of Cruise Bruise Investigations.
