Cheryl Denise Wainscott, 32,a passenger who went for a walk on a cruise ship in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, February 23, 1988 disappeared at sea as the ship was heading south from Miami, Florida on a voyage to Freeport in the Bahamas.
Bahamian police questioned the missing woman's husband of 13 years, John Wainscott, 34, owner of a dental laboratory.
Mr. Wainscott was reported to have told the ship's captain the last time he saw his wife she had left to go for a walk on deck, shortly after midnight.
United States Coast Guard (USCG) Petty Officer Joe Dye, said that the Coast Guard cutter Cape Current, an airplane and helicopter searched the Atlantic for Cheryl Denise Wainscott, of Woodstock, Georgia while a search of the ship Carnivale was conducted dockside at Freeport when the ship arrived.
Dye said the ship notified the USCG around 0900 hours that Wainscott was missing and was presumed overboard.
Wainscott could not be found.
