A cruise ship passenger has gone missing while aboard the Scandinavian Star on a Thanksgiving weekend Cruise to the Bahamas.

The cruise line says the ship searched for the Giussepe Galiani for a period of 45 minutes, without luck, but the seas were rough and the ship had to move on.

The United States Coast Guard (USCG), rejected that statement, saying that they had requested the cruise ship stay to mark the spot where Galiani had fallen overboard and to help with the search, but the captain refused with seas of only ten to fifteen feet.

The USCG says when the arrived on the scene around 2100 hours after they received a call from Captain Paul Larsen that he had a man overboard, the cruise ship was already on the way back to Miami, Florida.

Several passengers saw Galiani go overboard, and threw life rings to him when the incident took place around 2030 hours. None of the witnesses were able to say how Galiani fell over. They only saw him after he was enroute to the water.

The USCG says that they searched for the man for 19 hours, to no avail.
