Gangway Collapses Four Injured Aboard MSC Fantasia
One passenger was injured and three crew members were injured in their rescue attempt about 1430 hours on Thursday, after the gangway of the MSC Fantasia collapsed at the passenger terminal in Palma.
According to the Port Authority, the accident occurred as a result of the strong winds affecting the Balearic Islands, gusting to 108kmph.
A strong gust of wind ripped several of the bow moorings off the bollards and the boat lurched away from the quay, causing the gangway, 45 feet above the sea to collapse.
The victim was a passenger from Egypt reported to be about 80-years-old. 80-year The passenger was crossing the gangway at the time it collapsed falling into the water and hitting this head on the side of the ship on the way down.
Three crew members jumped in to save him and suffered from hypothermia.
The passenger is currently in hospital in Palma in a serious condition and attached to a ventilator.
It is unclear why the captain and the port authority allowed traffic on and off the ship during the extremely hazardous conditions.

Passenger Missing On Carnival Splendor Cruise Ship
An elderly cruise ship passenger from California is missing off the Carnival Splendor on a voyage that began January 31st in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The passenger, reported as age 63, went missing off the the coast of Chile yesterday, while the ship was on the way to San Francisco, California.
The United States Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) says they are not investigating the case, it took place in Chilean territorial waters.
