Female Passenger Aboard Coral Princess Alleges Sex Assault By Crew

Upon arriving at the Port Of Los Angeles, California today, the United States Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) was notified that a female passenger had contacted officers aboard the Princess Cruises' Coral Princess this past Tuesday, March 3rd, that she had been sexually assaulted while the ship was on the voyage.

Upon learning of the alleged assault, the crew member was confined to quarters with a security guard posted outside his door.

At 0700 hours when the ship docked at the Port Of Los Angeles, FBI investigators along with their evidence response team boarded the Coral Princess and began an investigation into the alleged sexual assault.

At that time the FBI took an unidentified crew member into custody. The suspect will appear in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, where formal charges will be brought against him.

The passenger had been on 14-day cruise through the Panama Canal, and had returned to San Pedro, California which is part of the Port Of Los Angeles.

Female Passenger Evacuated From Voyager of the Seas

A female passenger who became injured aboard Voyager Of The Seas required a medical evacuation by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) last night.

Around 2300 hours, the crew of Voyager Of The Seas contacted the USCG requesting assistance with an injured passenger.

The woman, said to have injured her foot was airlifted by a USCG MH-65 rescue helicopter assisted by a jet out of NAS-Corpus Christi.

The passenger, said to be age 61, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Crew Critically Injured In Fire Drill Dies

The chief engineer aboard Oceanic Discoverer who was crushed in fire door during a routine fire drill for crew while passengers were in port on February 19, 2009 has died from his injuries.

The 34-year-old engineer, who was from Australia, died in Hawke's Bay Hospital after he had been trapped between a fire door and a bulkhead

Maritime New Zealand and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission have both launched investigations into the man's death.

Cruise Ship Aurora Engine Problems Cause Missed Ports

Aurora is going to be missing calls at Bay of Islands, Wellington and Napier after an engine problem delayed departure from Auckland, New Zealand. The ship has about 1700 passengers aboard.

Sandy Olsen, spokeswoman of P&O UK, said Aurora needed maintenance work on a thrust bearing, which is used to transfer power from the ship's propeller.

"Aurora was due to depart early on Saturday, March 7th evening, and we've yet to determine a departure day."

The ship is expected to stay in port at least several days.

Aurora left Southampton in England in mid-January and is half-way through her world cruise.

After leaving Auckland, Aurora will heading to Honolulu, San Francisco and Acapulco, Mexico, before arriving in Southampton, United Kingdom on April 13.
