Costa Crociere Cruise Line has reported to Greek authorities that a woman overboard from one of their ships. The ship was in the Aegean Sea off Nisyros, Greece enroute to Santorini.
Costa Crociere ships are registered in Italy.
A search and rescue operation by the coast guard of Greece is now underway with patrol boats and a rescue helicopter searching the sea.
The name of the woman is unknown.
Two cases that got worldwide attention in this region was the case of the sinking of the Sea Diamond off Santorini this year. Two French passengers were never found after the ship sank.
There was also the case of the teenage cruise ship passenger who fell overboard on her Costa cruise last year and was never found.
