Gofundme Description:
My mom, Gail, has dedicated her life to care for others, including caring full time for my 38-year-old brother who has serious mental and physical disabilities. Now Mom has stage 4 cancer. Please help me care for Mom by giving her the trip of her dreams while she can still enjoy it.

Here’s the whole story:
In the fall of 2014, Gail had surgery to remove a tumor on her colon. The biopsy results showed it was malignant. Mom had more tests and scans and was told she had Stage IV neuroendocrine colon carcinoma. This is a rare, fast-growing and far-spreading cancer.
The surgery had removed the cancer from her colon; however, scans showed the cancer had spread to her liver. Unfortunately, that’s normal with this aggressive cancer. Mom immediately started chemotherapy, three days a week every three weeks. She did well on the chemo, had energy and, while she had her bad days, for the most part she felt good.

We thought that meant the chemo was working. Sadly it was not. In January my family found out that the spots on Mom’s liver had grown and now she has spots on her adrenal glands. Gail has started on a more aggressive chemo regimen.

Aside from a month while she was recovering from surgery, Mom has also been taking care of Jerry, her 38-year-old son who has mental and physical disabilities. Aside from a few short years where Jerry lived with my dad, who passed away several years ago, Mom has cared for Jerry in her home, on her own, for Jerry’s entire adult life (in addition to raising him, myself, and our other brother).

My brother is a complete momma's boy-- she is his world and his anchor. Mom loves my brother more than anything. She has had to sacrifice a lot throughout the years for Jerry and she wouldn't have had it any other way.

Jerry is her world too; he keeps her going and is the reason she has the strength she does. Gail tries her best to hide how sick she is, but Jerry knows something is very wrong. Mom talks of ways we can make things easier for Jerry when it the time comes. It's heartbreaking seeing her worrying for him and his future.

I want to bring Mom some joy during these difficult times, but I cannot do it alone. Gail has always wanted to go on a cruise and has never been able to afford one. With support and encouragement from some wonderful friends, I decided to start this page to help make her dream come true, to relieve some of the stress and worry she has been going through, and send her on an amazing trip.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please share. Even if you can’t give money, words of encouragement, prayers and thoughts are always so very welcome.

All funds will go to sending Gail on an awesome cruise. Any funds left over will be donated to Florida Cancer Specialist, the place where my mom is receiving treatments. FCS is a wonderful place full of caring people.

Gail does not know of this, as I want to keep it a surprise until I know it’s funded, but I am sure she would like to say thank you and may God bless you. I think you too.

** I would like to take some time and ask this of everyone who reads this. If you have a history of cancer in your family, have certain risk factors, or over a certain age. Please get screened, early dectection is always the best. You can get a ton of information at Cancer.org Thank you. **
