The Prime Time is a party boat owned by Boaters World Adventures which is run by Nico Wessels. Prime Time books lunch, dinner, sunset and event cruises at Hartbeespoort Dam. There were 200 passengers and three crew members aboard when the fire took place just before lunch was to be served on November 19, 2016.
Four passenger died during the fire, all of them women who were celebrating as part of a Tiger Brands South Africa company excursion. Three of the four dead were Gwen Mnguni, Portia Gumede
and Roselyn Molepi. The fourth woman has not been named, but reportedly jumped overboard without a life jacket and drown while the blaze was underway.
The excursion boat offers two- and three-hour cruises which include three-course meals, a bar and music. As of December 28, 2016, the company was still advertising a Christmas cruise for the Prime Time, which appeared to be a total loss based on the photographs seen above.
