People Who Paid the Ultimate Price for Selfies
Cruise ship passengers aboard cruise ships, on excursions and travelers in general need to be aware of their surroundings as they shoot for the ultimate holiday selfie memory of their travels. More than 30 people have died during selfies, some of them so outrageous, they defy comprehension.
The United States Department of Transportation estimated that during 2014, the year of the selfie, 33,000 people were injured while driving and using a cell-phone in some fashion, which can include talking, listening, and "manual button/control actuation" including taking, uploading, downloading, editing, or opening of selfies.
A survey by Erie Insurance Group found 4% of all drivers admit to taking selfies while driving, equal to nearly ten percentage of drivers who admit to singing or dancing while driving and 1% higher than drivers who admit to urinating or defecating while driving.
Some people have made a name for themselves doing selfies during travel. Greg Benson known for this Youtube channel for Mediocrefilms, has more than 270,000 subscribers and has some pretty cool selfie shoots as he wanders the cruise ship.
But, when capturing the perfect photographic memory of a vacation moment becomes an obsession, things go terribly wrong, terribly fast. More than 30 people have died while taking selfies, after they became so fixated on getting an infamous shot, they became unaware of their surroundings, or simply risked it all for that perfect shot. These incidents prove, there are no limits to stupidity of people all around the world and many of those moments were captured on camera as our photo slider documents.
