Eric Thomas, age 7, of Ohio was on vacation with his family, aboard the Majesty Of The Seas. Thomas's mother, step-father and sister were traveling together. The family had booked some personal watercraft at Cabbage Beach in Nassau.
The tragic accident happened just hours after the boy arrived in the Bahamas with his parents and sister. The ship arrived at 0800 hours (8am) and the accident took place at 11:30am
During the shore excursion, Thomas was riding with this mother on one of the craft rented by his family. The mother hit a wave resulting in both being thrown from the craft. Police say the boy may have been hit by another family member's rented craft traveling close behind.
Thomas suffered severe injuries, and later died from his injuries. taken from Paradise Island to Princess Margaret Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The cruise line was eager to point out the excursion was not arranged through them, and they had no connection to the watercraft rental company.
