Ms. Harilal was advised by her attorney not to sign anything. It is unclear if the ship continued to hold her hostage and headed back out to sea with her aboard. Harilal called her Miami-based lawyer, Tonya Meister, at 2:30 pm on February 15 to inform her of the situation.

UPDATE: February 20, 2007

Carnival Cruise Lines says they allowed Harilal to leave the ship in Nassau on February 15, 2007. Tonay Meister attorney for Ms. Harilal says the departure from the ship was delayed because her client refused to sign documents shoved at her, and she refused to sign them on the advice of her attorney.

Carnival denies this. I'm sure telephone records will verify whether or not the conversation between Harilal and her attorney took place that day while she was still on the ship or not.

Meister said it is her understanding that Carnival was suppose to provide Harilal with a plane ticket to South Africa.  Harilal holds a C1/D1 cruise ship worker visa as well as a tourist visa.
