My parents went on a Caribbean cruise on Nov, 30 2006 for ten days departing from Fort Lauderdale.
On December 4th my father was airlifted to Granada after vomiting and having severe diarrhea and abdominal and back pain in his room.
Both parents were airlifted to Fort Lauderdale the next day and my father died 84 days later in a Charlotte hospital after battling Pancreatitis and a plethora of ills secondary to the norovirus.
He was not a habitual drinker nor did he have gallbladder disease. He had just gotten a clean bill of health from his doctor before embarking on the cruise and he worked full time as a carpet layer and wrapping honey baked hams days before leaving for his long saved vacation.
Hundreds on the ship were diagnosed with norovirus (CDC confirmed) on his ship.
My mother had a more mild form treated in FL medical Center and
had a full recovery .
My father battled kidney failure and was on a ventilator among other horrible experiences. He pleaded to die toward the end.
