By Charles R. Lipcon
A new cruise industry book will be on store shelves on January 31, 2008.
The book is written by martime legal expert Charles Lipcon, a Cruise Bruise partner, and provides information for the cruising public.
According to the Amazon.com website, where the 128 page book will be available for $14.95, the reader will "discover the reality the cruise industry doesn't want you to know about: Sexual Assaults, Shipboard Disappearances, A Pattern of Cover-ups, Noroviruses, Unaccredited Doctors, Inadequate Security and Your Binding Ticket Contract."
You’ll get realistic rules to keep you safe in a cruise ship environment, sensible talk about health and sanitation issues, and practical advice to guide you from the purchase of you ticket until the end of your voyage. Do not go on a cruise without reading this book – and don’t leave port without it!
A leading expert in maritime law, Charles Lipcon is the son of a Naval Officer and traveled extensively when he was a youth. A graduate of the University of Miami Undergraduate and Law School, Lipcon began to practice law in the port city of Miami, just as the cruise industry as we know it today was starting up.
His very first case, involving a crewman who’d had an accident aboard a ship, initiated the young lawyer into the intricacies of the industry. He discovered that a ship may be built in Italy, headquartered in the U.S., and fly a Liberian flag. So whose jurisdiction is it under? Whose law applies?
In order to sue for reparations for the crewman, Lipcon had to delve through a series of mysteries, or what he called “layers of laws” and international treaties to discover who was responsible and who to sue.
He won his case for the crewman and in the more than 30 years since, he’s been a friend of both crewmen and passengers, winning awards and setting precedents in maritime law.
Called “the lawyer who never loses a case,” Lipcon has appeared on national television over thirty times and has become the go-to-guy other lawyers seek out when they need answers about the industry.
