A bomb exploded in a kitchen prematurely in Antalya Turkey. The man building the bomb was Louai Sakka After the bomb exploded 48 hours prematurely, he fled the area. Two days later he was arrested. Louai turned out to be a senior operative for al Qaeda  The story was then outlined to police during his interrogation. He had planned to die steering a yacht laden with explosives into a cruise ship that was heading into the Mediterranean Sea the moment the bomb exploded prematurely. It is unknown which cruise ship was the target, but it was discovered the attack was targeted at an Israeli cruise ships docking on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Brilliance Of The Seas, Celebrity Cruise Lines Millennium cruise in the area, and could potentially become targets. The Mediterranean Sea cruises are a higher priority for terrorists, as they are closer to home, and evidence shows Turkey is a hub for terrorist cells working the region.

Monday, 7 October 1985, Palestinian terrorists took control of the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship with 400+ passengers and crew, 19 of them were Americans.  The hijackers demanded the release of 50 of their Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF) comrades imprisoned in Israel. The terrorists executed an American tourist, Leon Klinghoffer, a retired appliance manufacturer from Manhattan. Having had two strokes, Klinghoffer was in a wheelchari. It is said he agrivated the terrorists, and was then shot in the chest and head, then his body tossed into the sea, where he drowned.
