Key Points:
The mililtary ships on patrol near Somalia attempted to board a 30-foot fishing boat towing smaller. The piratres onboard open fired on the military vessels and were greeted by U.S. naval gunners rounds of machine gun fire, which ended in the death of one pirate, and the wounding of five others. The five were then arrested and placed in holding onboard one of the military vessels. The Cape St. Georgeis  a guided-missile cruiser, and Gonzalez, a guided-missile destroyer. No U.S. sailers were injured in the exchange. This attack took place near the area where the Carnival Seabourn Spirit was attacked Novermber 5, 2005

Key Points:
Pirates in two small boats attacked and hijacked the ship, gaining possession of the vessel and the crew. The attack took place while on route from the southern port of Kismayo to El-Maan, 22 miles from the capital of Mogadishu.

Key Points:
10 pirates using three AK-47s, two anti-aircraft missiles and a revolver attacked this cargo ship. The  Captain Akbar Ali Suleiman told a Mombasa court his crew were mistreated and threatened while being held between January 16-21. The crew went without food for four days, they beat them every time they tried to free themselves. They were damanding a $450,000 ransom and satellite phones. The pirates also tried to highjack three more vessels using this ship.  The crew were freed by a U.S. Navy ship on partrol in the area. The trial was held in Kenya.

Key Points:
Pirates attacked Al Manara, a 3,000 ton cargo ship,  and held her captive until the Al Manara was rescued by a United States war ship, and the pirated were caputed, and locked up on the Al Manara.

Key Points:
Pirates attacked the Steadfast loaded with a cargo of 16,585 mts of vegetable oil at the Indonesian port of Palembang bound for China. The vessel  was headed towards Vietnam or Kampuchea after the attack. The vessel turned back towards Indonesia and the pirates finally left the vessel on 24 December 2005 in Indonesian waters. The 25 crew, cargo and vessel were released safe

Pagania, was attacked as it sailed from South Africa to Europe with a cargo of iron ore.
The hijackers demanded a $700,000 ransom for the release of the ship and its 22 crew, all believed to be Ukrainian

Key Points:
Pirates attacked this Russian cargo ship, using two speed boats, assault rifles and grenade launchers. The pirates fired two grenades at a life boat that  caught fire. The cargo ship’s crew repulsed the attack.  None of the crew was injured during the attack. After the incident, the Tim Buck continued on its journey.

Key Points:
The guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez received word of  a vessel under pirate attack via a bridge-to-bridge radio report from Tigris. The crew of the motor vessel, who escaped uninjured, reported they were under attack and being fired upon. The Tigres master requested immediate assistance.  The USS Gonzalez responded immediately and began moving toward Tigris at best speed in order to render assistance. The crew of Gonzalez fired .50 caliber machine guns across the bow of the pirate vessel, energized their searchlights, which scared off the pirates, and the exited the scene
