A female passenger onboard Carnival Cruise Line Legend, was sleeping around 5am in the morning, as it returned to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The passenger was on a eight day caribbean cruise.
She was awakened by a crew member, who was identified as Made Wirawan, age 24, from Indonesia entered her cabin with a master key and raped her.
He was arrested by the Broward County Sheriff's Department on charges that he raped a passenger aboard the Legend.
The victim reported the incident to Carnival’s onboard security. After identifying, security guards detained him until the ship was docked and the sheriff's department responded.
The woman once ashore, was transported to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale for tests. She then returned to her home state to recover from the assault.
Made Wirawan was arrested and jailed in Fort Lauderdale on charges of sexual battery and burglary with assault or battery.
