Cruise Ship Passenger Indicted For Alleged Charleston Cruise Attack on Fellow Passenger
According to a federal indictment obtained by Cruise Bruise Investigates, Timothy Dean Hill was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly assaulting another passenger six months ago while cruising aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Ecstasy on February 27, 2016 while the cruise ship was returning from a Caribbean Cruise.
The alleged assault took place on the last day of the cruise. Carnival Ecstasy embarked on a 5-night cruise from Charleston, South Carolina around 1600 hours on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 and returned on Sunday morning, February 28 after making calls at Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas.
The first clue to what happened in this case may be the level of secrecy involved. The federal indictment alleges Timothy Dean Hill committed an "assault resulting in serious bodily injury" and names the victim only as "B.J." Using the initials of a victim in a federal case is typically reserved for cases involving children, though it is also used sometimes in adult cruise ship sexual assault cases. It is never used in adult on adult assault cases which do not involve an assault of a sexual nature.
Cruise Bruise investigating the level of secrecy involved, notes that a person with the same full name is on the Idaho sex offender registry for an incident which took place ten years ago in 2006 involving a child under the age of 16. The charged conviction was for "lewd conduct with a minor child under 16". The Idaho sex offender registry offender's record for Timothy Dean Hill was last updated on August 9, 2016, only two days before the indictment on August 11, 2016.
Timothy Dean Hill is a common name, there is no information at this time to connect this indictment to the Idaho sex offender record. The indictment is presented as an alleged event, a trial will take place and Hill is considered innocent until proven guilty. The arraignment is scheduled for August 25, 2016 in Charleston Federal District Court. This case is unfolding, please check back.
