Quintana Roo, Mexico - July 23, 2014

The Federal Consumer Office (PROFECO), has issued a fraud alert warning, naming seven companies operating in the state of Quintana Roo which have deceived buyers by “selling” them false timesharing properties, collecting up to 35,000 pesos ($2,707US) as down payment for timesharing properties throughout Mexico. operate by renting conference rooms, restaurants and convention centers at five star hotels in Quintana Roo, where they hold their events over the course of a weekend, collect down payments, and then disappear.

While seven companies have been named, name changes to criminal operations or new criminal operations may also pose a risk to potential buyers.


Most of the fraud has taken place in the cruise excursion destinations for Cozumel, Mexico which include Puerto Aventuras Mexico, Puerto Morelos, Mexico, Paamul, Mexico and Akumal, Mexico.
